Drone landscape photography VLOG - Miserable drone shots!
The Goal: Simple Shots, Real Scenes
No big plan. Just me, the DJI Mini 3, and a moody October day in the woods. I’m drawn to these quiet, grey days—they force you to dig deeper for good shots. This wasn’t about getting the most dramatic images; it was about seeing what I could pull from the everyday scenes that usually go unnoticed.
Why the DJI Mini 3?
I chose the DJI Mini 3 for this trip. Why? It's light, under 250 grams, which keeps things easy and lets me fly pretty much anywhere. No need to worry about getting bogged down in gear or the logistics of taking off. This little drone’s got just enough to handle moody landscape shots without the fuss.
Hunting for Shots in the Chaos
Woodlands are chaotic. Trees, tangled vines, fallen leaves—nature's not interested in clean lines. But that’s part of the challenge. I wanted shots that showed the real vibe of the place: paths winding through the trees, patches of leaves on damp ground, and nothing overly dramatic. Just everyday beauty.
A few top-down shots of the canopy and some paths stood out. Simple, calm, and perfectly suited to the overcast mood. No forced symmetry, just the honest look of the woods on a cold autumn day.
One of my favorite shots came at the edge of the woods: two fields side by side—one plowed, one green, split by a hedge and a single tree. Nothing flashy, but that contrast was perfect. Sometimes the most basic scenes speak the loudest.
These kinds of outings remind me why I started doing this in the first place. There's no fancy setup or filters needed—just capturing what’s there. Overcast days like this are underrated, but they're exactly what I like to shoot. Simple, real, and always rewarding.
If you’re into drone photography and haven’t tried it on an overcast day, do it. There’s a raw beauty there that doesn’t need any hype.
